The Script Sues James Arthur

Irish band The Script is suing James Arthur for copyright infringement. The group claim that the X Factor winner’s 2016 comeback single “Say You Won’t Let” Go rips off their 2008 single “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.” Arthur denies all of the claims.

Attorney Richard Busch, who represented Marvin Gaye’s estate in its successful lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over the song “Blurred Lines,” has filed a suit against Arthur, his two co-writers, as well as his record and publishing companies.

In the complaint, Busch says that James approached by members of The Script in 2014 about doing a collaboration but they turned him down. Busch then claims James stole the “essence” of “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” for “Say You Won’t Let Go.”

Busch wants a jury trial and an accounting of all the revenue connected to the song.
