MURPHY BROWN REBOOT TO TAKE ON MORNING SHOW WARS: Murphy Brown is returning to CBS in the fall, two decades after the classic ended its run. The theme of the revival is being billed thusly: “the eponymous broadcast news legend, played by Candice Bergen, and her biting take on current events, now in a world of 24-hour cable, social media, ‘fake news’ and a vastly different political climate.” Bergen is now anchoring a cable news show, Murphy in the Morning. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-FALLOUT TRAILER DROPS: The new trailer for Mission: Impossible-Fallout is packed with stunts, and also features a disrupted wedding. “There cannot be peace without first a great suffering. The greater the suffering, the greater the peace. The end you’ve always feared is coming. It’s coming,” Solomon (Sean Harris) cautions Ethan (Tom Cruise). “And the blood will be on your hands.” Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Michelle Monaghan also star. BIG BANG THEORY HEADED FOR THE LONG HAUL: When CBSThe Big Bang Theory was revived for two seasons last year, and the cast signed on for new salary agreements, many believed the 12thseason (this coming season) would be the last. Not so. At CBS‘ upfront breakfast, entertainment president Kelly Kahl said they were all in for many seasons to come. The show currently boasts the highest-paid quintuplet of actors on TV, which paychecks hovering around $1 million an episode.

VIN DIESEL GEARS UP FOR MUSCLE: Fast and Furious franchise star Vin Diesel is set to star in STX‘s action-comedy Muscle. “I’ve known Vin for more than a decade after working closely with him on the Fast and Furious franchise and I’m excited for him to return to this genre,” said Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STX, in making the announcement. “Muscle is the perfect blend of action and comedy that his millions of devoted fans around the world have come to love him for, and we believe has the potential to become his next big, signature franchise.”

SONY CLASSICS SNAGS FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE: Denys Arcand‘s upcoming The Fall of The American Empire has been snapped up by Sony Pictures Classics. The film is being billed as a follow-up to the Oscar-winner’s The Decline of the American Empire. The Fall will explore the predominance of capitalism in an immoral society; it follows a 36-year-old intellectual who has to work as a deliveryman to earn a living. The drama picks up when he gets caught up in a hold-up gone bad.
