ROXANE GAY OFFERS TO WRITE BATGIRL AFTER JOSS WHEDON OPTS OUT: After Joss Whedon let the world know that he was out for Warner Bros‘ Batgirl, it seemed all hope was lost (he was the one who had floated the idea for the adaptation in the first place). But Bad Feminist and Hunger scribe Roxane Gay may save the day yet. She took to Twitter, writing “Hey @DCComics I can write your batgirl movie, no prob.” Her message went viral and it seems Warner Bros took notice. Michele Wells, a VP who works on DC projects, tweeted at Gay: “If you’re serious…contact me,” Wells wrote, providing her company email address. Then came Gay’s response: “Yes I am serious. I will email you.” Gay doesn’t have screenwriting creds, but she did pen the popular Black Panther: World of Wakanda comics series.
PRODIGY TRAILER DROPS: Sci-fi thriller Prodigy has shared a chilling new trailer. The sci-fi film follows Dr. James Fonda (Richard Neil), whose services have been enlisted by a secret branch of the military. He is called to meet a young patient named Ellie (Savannah Liles) whom he engages in a battle of wits. Fonda discovers that Ellie has a secret supernatural power, which could spell the end of them both. The film is making the festival circuit and will be available on VOD March 13th.
LABYRINTH TO RETURN TO THEATERS: Jim Henson‘s cult 1986 flick Labyrinth is returning to the big screen for three days as part of a fan celebration. Special screenings will take place April 29th, May 1st and 2nd. Fans are encouraged to attend in costume. Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie star.
BBC SETS OUT TO REMOVE BARRIERS FOR WOMEN: The BBC is reviewing its practices with the goal of removing barriers for women at the corporation. This comes after severe backlash against a perceived gender pay gap at the broadcaster. It will also look at different options for part-time and flexible working and whether it should be easier for people to return to work after maternity leave or breaks in their career.
