Cariboo Regional District approves 3.7% tax increase

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Cariboo Regional District has approved a tax increase of 3.7 percent.  It represents an increase of $897,000 to an operating budget of $52.9 million dollars.

CRD Chair Margo Wagner is quick to point out that it doesn’t necessarily mean every home owner will see their bill jump by 3.7 per cent.

“Each service of the Regional District operates independently, so the tax rate for each resident depends on which services they contribute to. Fluctuations in property assessments and changes in the number of residential or commercial properties that fund the service also impact the tax rates,” she added.

Major projects funded in the 2019 budget include four fire truck replacements and construction of a dedicated Emergency Operations Centre. Overall, the regional district says the most notable tax increases support Emergency Planning areas.
