KAMLOOPS — Earlier this week Kamloops experienced its first major grass fire of 2019.

Now Kamloops Fire Rescue is asking residents to be cautious in grasslands and interface areas during this time of year.

KFR says in a news release that as the warmer temperatures melt the snow, grasses and fine fuels become very dry and can be ignited quite easily.

Residents are being asked to safely discard all smoking materials in approved containers. Carelessly tossed cigarettes lead to wildfires every year.
