Positive takeaway from BCLC meeting for Kamloops business groups

KAMLOOPS — Yesterday, 10 local businesses and groups from around Kamloops met with B.C Attorney General, David Eby to clarify the future of BCLC.

The meeting stemmed from a flurry of rumours around what will become of the BCLC Headquarters in Kamloops, after plans for a new building were scrapped. 

North Shore Business Improvement Association Executive Director Jeremy Heighton says overall, the gathering was positive. 

“The short and the long of it is the Attorney General has committed BCLC headquarters to being here in Kamloops,” he explains. “They are still open at looking at opportunities for what that headquarters looks like, whether there’s opportunities for partnerships, that type of thing.”

BCLC has committed to meeting with the business community on a regular basis, and for now, the headquarters will remain in its current downtown location. 

“I think it’s perfect where it is. I think it’s a great spot. It’s a jewel heading into the downtown core, it really anchors the commercial sector of Kamloops. If there’s opportunities for us to take it on the North Shore, we’ll take it, don’t get me wrong,” he laughs. “But I like it where it is, and I think there’s great opportunities where it is to look at partnerships with the city or with other organizations as well.”

While there are no set dates coming up for the group’s next get together with BCLC, Heighton says they feel confident in the future growth of that relationship.
