Fatal collision near Salmon Arm closes highway

SALMON ARM, B.C. — One person is dead after a crash in the Shuswap this afternoon.

RCMP say in a news release that police and emergency services responded to a fatal crash on Highway 97B near Hudson Road south of Salmon Arm.

When officials arrived, it was determined that a commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle collided head-on. One occupant of the passenger vehicle died.

Both lanes of the highway are closed to traffic and there is a detour in place. Police and the BC Coroners Service and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement service are investigating.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and nothing has been ruled out at this point.

Note: An earlier version of this story stated two people had died in the crash. RCMP E-Division Traffic Services have since corrected their initial release, and now say only one person is confirmed dead.
