KAMLOOPS — The major midget Thompson Blazers couldn’t make up any ground in the standings on the Cariboo Cougars with a split in Prince George this weekend.

The Blazers dropped the opening game of the weekend on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the Cariboo Cougars. They were down 4-2 after the first two periods before the Cougars added another one in the third to secure the win. Logan Stankoven had two assists in the loss.

The Blazers then bounced back on Sunday with a come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Cougars. They got behind again, 4-2, after the first period and slowly chipped away at the deficit, scoring once in the second and then three times in the third period to defeat Cariboo and earn a split for the weekend.

Stankoven added another two helpers in the win to bring his season total to 70 points through 30 games, leading the league by 22. Jarrod Semchuk had a big weekend as well, contributing six assists in the two games.
