KAMLOOPS — Last week the BC Lottery Corporation announced plans to build a new headquarters in Kamloops were being put off, but that hasn’t stopped the Crown corporation from discussing a collaboration with the City of Kamloops for a new building down the road.

City Hall is in need of some major upgrades with issues like asbestos, problems with conduits and heating and ventilation.

Mayor Ken Christian says working together with BCLC is a viable option as the two are already neighbours on the same block.

While the City and crown corporation will not likely have new spaces anytime soon, Christian says they will continue to investigate options for upgrades to both.

“If you have an opportunity and those opportunities are rather fleeting, you may as well investigate that and so that’s what we will continue to do with them, but it’s not anything that’s going to happen soon,” Christian said. “Unfortunately, with this building here we are going to be looking at $10 to $15 million worth of renovations and they’re going to be looking at about the same as we continue to struggle with these older buildings.”
