KAMLOOPS — Apartment construction led the way to a housing start boom for Kamloops in 2018.

The latest figures from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation show the amount of housing starts in Kamloops in 2018 nearly doubled from 2017 totals.

In a release today, CMHC says 1,220 units were started in 2018, whereas in the year prior, there were only 658 housing starts in the city.

That is largely due to the number of apartment start-ups in the area, which leaped from 163 units in 2017, to 785 in 2018.
