INDONESIA — One of the world’s most volcanic islands is believed to have triggered the tsunami that hit Indonesia this weekend.

The volcano that erupted last night lies in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra islands, linking the Indian Ocean and Java Sea.

At least 222 people were killed by the tsunami, which swamped hotels, houses and concertgoers at a beachside venue.

The volcano erupted about 24 minutes before the tsunami, according to Indonesia’s geophysics agency.
