BCLC accepting wagers for the New Year’s baby

VANCOUVER — The BC Lottery Corporation has introduced a unique bet.  B.C. bettors can lay money down on which hospital in the province will be home to the first baby of 2019. 

24 hospitals are available to bet on including the B.C. Womens Hospital in Vancouver which has the best odds at 5 to 1.  Hospitals in Cranbrook, Penticton, Comox and Cowichan have the highest odds at 51 to 1. 

Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops is listed near the middle of the pack at 31 to 1. 

The first baby of 2018 was born just 9 seconds into the year at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Betting is open now and will close Dec. 29.
