KAMLOOPS — The third weekend of Operation Red Nose in Kamloops was a busy one with 291 safe rides provided from Dec. 13 to Dec. 15.

Nearly 160 volunteers helped get people and their vehicles home safely. On Thursday night, 14 rides were provided, 127 rides on Friday night, and 150 rides on Saturday night, making the Kamloops operation the busiest in BC.

The total rides so far for the season is at 743, with last weekend bringing in more than $7,400 in donations for PacificSport Interior BC.

Kamloops is the 10th busiest operation in the country out of 100 communities.

“The amount of volunteers combined with mild weather this past weekend made for very low wait times for those looking to get home safe,” Kamloops’s Operation Red Nose says in a news release. “The kilometers driven to… provide those rides is staggering. Just this past weekend ORN in Kamloops drove over 5,600 kilometers. That is like one person driving from Kamloops to Newfoundland!”

The service will run again this weekend from Thursday to Saturday, and volunteers are still being sought for the rest of the season.
