CLEARWATER, B.C. — Two Prince George men have been taken into custody by Clearwater RCMP after attempting to evade police through several jurisdictions in a stolen vehicle.

At roughly 2:06 p.m. on Dec. 12, McBride RCMP attempted to stop a white Ford F-450 truck with the Alberta licence plate BBY0780, towing a jet boat along Highway 16 east. The truck drove away at high speeds and didn’t stop for police, RCMP say in a news release.

Due to public safety concerns, officers didn’t pursue the vehicle any further and neighbouring detachments were advised.

The Valemount RCMP weren’t successful in trying to assist near the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 5, as the vehicle headed toward the Clearwater area. A second vehicle stop was attempted near Valemount but the vehicle failed to stop and raced away again.

Just before 3:00 p.m., patrolling officers found the boat and trailer in the middle of Highway 5 south of Valemount, and it was confirmed the truck had been stolen from Calgary, and the boat from Grand Prairie, Alta.

Several RCMP units and detachments, including officers from Kamloops, Prince George, and Clearwater, patrolled Highway 5 northeast of Clearwater, and a short time later the suspect vehicle was spotted heading south on Highway 5 past Blue River.

Clearwater officers used a spike belt and disabled the vehicle as it entered the town. The driver continued to drive on bare rims and was seen eventually coming to a stop in the Vavenby area.

The two male suspects fled on foot and police set up a perimeter with several K-9 units converging to track the suspects. Highway 5 closed for a brief period during this time but was eventually reopened. At 6:00 p.m., a 29-year-old Prince George man was arrested and taken into custody. Three K-9 units and several Clearwater members continued to search for the other suspect until nightfall when the search was suspended.

On Thursday morning, a Clearwater resident reported a prowler on their property and a 32-year-old Prince George man was taken into custody. He was located hiding up a tree after a police dog had tracked him.

“The investigation is ongoing and spans multiple jurisdictions, both suspects are facing a multitude of charges including possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk in the release.

Clearwater RCMP are asking for the public’s help and ask that anyone with information on this matter or who possibly have dash cam footage of the truck involved, call McBride RCMP at (250) 569-2255 or Clearwater RCMP at (250) 674-2237.
