BLUE RIVER — A business in Blue River is reaching out to help provide a warmer winter season to the less fortunate in Kamloops.

Blue River Sledz has given around $1000 worth of winter coats, pants, and boots to be distributed to community members in need.

Co-owner Cheri Ewen says her and her husband, Daniel Hardes (known as “Digger”) have run the snowmobiling business for the last 7 years, and decided to donate the under-utilized clothes kept in their shop.

“The original intent when we got our business years ago was, if someone showed up and wanted to go snowmobiling, because we do snowmobile rentals and tours, if someone didn’t have the appropriate gear, then we would have it for them.”

Ewen explains they haven’t had many people actually use the just-in-case winter gear, so her and Daniel thought the clothing should go towards people who need it.

“It was just a case of, its winter, theres a lot of people as you drive down Kamloops that you see don’t have jackets,” She explains, “And we just wanted to see them (the clothing) getting utilized.”

According to Ewen, the clothing was given to a group in Kamloops which did not wish to be recognized, who then dropped off the donations at the men’s and women’s shelters in the area.

Being that they run a small business compared to some larger companies, Ewen adds, they’re glad they were able to help out and pay it forward to Kamloops.
