SICAMOUS, B.C. — A Sicamous man is dead after a snowmobiling accident north of the Shuswap town.

RCMP say in a news release that officers received a report of a possible fatal snowmobile accident yesterday (Dec. 9) at 2:55 p.m. in the Queest Mountain Forest Service Road area north of Sicamous.

Police were told that the man had been guiding a group of five other snowmobilers when his snowmobile accidentally rolled into a creek bed and pinned him underneath.

CPR was performed by the group, but they were unable to revive the man.

The Shuswap Search and Rescue Team (SSAR) was tasked by RCMP and they were able to locate the group and confirmed the fatality. SSAR members were able to get the other snowmobilers out of the area, but due to the terrain, darkness and weather conditions at the time they weren’t able to retrieve the deceased man right away. Efforts to remove him were resumed today.

Police say they’re providing support to the man’s next of kin, and are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service  with their investigation into the incident and the man’s death.
