KAMLOOPS — With a month to go in 2018, the Kamloops building sector has set a new record for construction activity, blowing past a quarter-billion dollars in permit activity this year.

With nearly $52 million in permits taken out last month, the year-to-date total for the City of Kamloops now sits at $262.6 million to the end of November.

More than half of last month's permit activity, $27.8 million, was registered in the 'Institutional' category, and another $6 million came in the form of a single apartment complex.

The permit activity from last month pushed 2018 past the previous record for construction in Kamloops, set last year at $224.1 million.

The biggest increase has come in the commercial sector, which is up 41 per cent compared to the same time in 2017.

Residential construction has also experienced an increase, at 12 per cent.
