Province asking private companies to fill gaps left by Greyhound in B.C. bus routes

VICTORIA — Bus routes to and from Kamloops are some of the several routes left unserviced after the departure of Greyhound, and the province is asking private companies to come forward.

BC’s Transportation Ministry is requesting expressions of interest from interested companies (RFEI) to provide intercity bus transportation for eight routes across the province that remain unfilled.

“The purpose of the RFEI is to gauge interest from private sector operators, non-profit societies, community agencies, local governments, Indigenous communities or other interested parties to provide innovative and flexible ground transportation services,” the ministry says in a news release. “Responses to this RFEI do not replace the need for interested parties to apply to the Passenger Transportation Board for an intercity bus licence.”

The routes the ministry is seeking expressions of interest for include Cache Creek to Kamloops on Highway 1 and Kamloops to Valemount on Highway 5. Another request is for the route from Dawson Creek to the BC-Alberta border via Highway 2.
