KAMLOOPS — Police responded in numbers to the North Shore today after receiving a report of a man with a rifle in a vehicle.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says in a news release that officers responded to the area of 12 Street and Halston Avenue at roughly 2:20 p.m. after receiving information about a man with a rifle sitting in a vehicle.

It was later found that the weapon wasn’t an actual rifle, but a pellet gun.

“This message is to reassure the public from the area that may have been distracted by police presence,” Van Laer says. “It is also to remind everyone to use proper care and caution when handling any type of weapon that may resemble real firearms.”
