VICTORIA — A conservation officer from Williams Lake has been recognized as B.C.'s conservation officer of the year for 2017.

Sgt. Len Butler is a 27-year veteran of B.C.'s CO Service after beginning his career in Alberta.

Among Butler's passions are preventing human-wildlife conflict and helping to train new recruits.

Butler co-ordinated the agency's Defensive Tactics Program after putting it together in 2007.

He becomes the 26th recipient of the Outstanding Officer of the Year award, and was recognized in Victoria Thursday.
