KAMLOOPS — It was always Tim O’Donovan’s dream to work for his hometown Blazers.

The Kamloops native started working with the team when he was still in high school in 2003, pouncing on an opportunity to work with then-head coach Dean Clark on video. However, his goals were to work directly on the hockey side of the business.

On Thursday, O’Donovan was promoted to Director of Hockey Operations.

“It’s a bit of a dream come true,” he said. “You grow up being a Blazer fan as well. It’s such a privilege to be part of the organization. I’ve been pretty fortunate with different opportunities from different people around here.”

O’Donovan, who will still keep his media and communications duties with the team, will now also deal directly with the players and be a liason between the Blazers and the league.

“Communication with the Western Hockey League, documentation, dealing with the players,” said O’Donovan. “More or less, it’s assisting our coaches with video still as well, and any other needs they have.”

Blazers GM Matt Bardsley made the announcement on Thursday and says O’Donovan has earned the promotion.

“Tim has been an integral part of this organization for a long time, and is well-deserving of this promotion,” said Bardsley. “His knowledge of the organization, the Western Hockey League and the community of Kamloops is not only impressive but important to the success of the Kamloops Blazers organization.  I have leaned on Tim during my transition as the General Manager and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him.”
