Lillooet RCMP investigating kidnapping, suspicious death

LILLOOET, B.C. — A 71-year-old man has been found dead after a report of a kidnapping and suspicious death near Lillooet.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says in a news release that on Saturday, Oct. 13, just after 1:30 p.m., officers received a report of a kidnapping and suspicious death on Highline Road outside of Seton Portage.

Lillooet RCMP members attended and located the deceased 71-year-old man. Due to the circumstances of the incident, the Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken on the investigation with assistance from Lillooet RCMP and the Southeast District Forensic Identification Services.

The investigation is in its early stages, and Saunderson says no further details will be released at this time.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and investigators have no information to suggest that the greater public is at further risk,” says Saunderson in the release.
