KAMLOOPS — The Mustard Seed New Life Community is preparing for one of its biggest events of the year, the annual Thanksgiving meal for those who might otherwise go without.

The event takes place on Thanksgiving Monday each year, with New Life serving more than 400 meals throughout the afternoon.

It’s an opportunity to provide a sense of family to those who may not have anyone to share the day with.

It’s also an opportunity for the community to show that it cares through monetary donations or by volunteering to serve.

“If they phone the corporate office, or phone New Life Community at (250) 434-9898 extension 120 and just talk to us and we can direct them the right way,” said Outreach Supervisor Jeff Arlitt.

“What we do on Thanksgiving is we don’t have (the guests) line up, we have them sit down at the tables and relax, and we actually have servers come and serve them, whether that’s coffee or their meals.”

As winter approaches, New Life Community is once again putting out the call for donations of warm clothing items.

There is an especially great need for socks, gloves and toques.

“People can bring things right down to New Life Community here, 181 West Victoria, and just go to the parking lot to the receiving area, ring the doorbell and we will just take the donations from there, whether they’re just bringing gloves and socks down or if it’s money donations, same thing: corporate office or come down here,” Arlitt said.
