KAMLOOPS — The annual Kidney walk takes place this Sunday at McDonald Park.

The walk raises funds for programs and services for patients.

Walk honouree Lyle Roberts has Kidney Disease, and has been in dialysis for five and a half years.

He has been a constant helper with the annual event.

While he doesn’t qualify for a kidney transplant, he says he celebrates with those who receive theirs.

“When there’s a transplant in dialysis there’s great joy … I have prostate cancer also, so I can’t qualify, but there’s great joy when we find out that somebody has had a kidney,” he said.

Dorothy Drinnan is also involved with the Kidney Walk.

As a recipient of a kidney transplant she is now raising money for the event.

In Kamloops, the fundraising goal is $20,000.

“Every little bit helps, right?” Drinnan said. “We have fun at the Kidney Walk. It’s a family day. People bring their puppies and people bring their kids, and we have the Lions Club from Brock Central pancake breakfast, so that’s always fun.”

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, and the walk starts at noon.
