Thefts from vehicles way up in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Lock your car doors and protect your valuables.

That’s the message from Williams Lake RCMP as totals in the “theft from vehicle” category are way up so far this year.

“Williams Lake RCMP have received 125 reports of thefts from vehicles,” says Williams Lake RCMP Insp. Jeff Pelley. “This is up 98 per cent from this time last year.”

He notes in most cases, theft is a crime of opportunity.

Pelley says people can take other measures to protect their valuables including parking in open, visible areas, lighting your driveway at night, using an anti-theft device and recording the serial numbers of all items of value.
