Stu Holland decides against running for mayor of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Stu Holland has changed his mind and will not be running for the mayor’s chair in Kamloops this fall.

A general contractor by trade, he attributes his decision to what he feels is a lack of interest from voters in this year’s race.

“From what I’m seeing and hearing on social media, Kamloops voters, the hard-working ones, aren’t really focused and not interested in local politics,” he told CFJC Today. “It was a hard decision because with the other two candidates, I would have loved to have taken on both of them.”

Despite his decision not to run, he hasn’t closed the door on future runs for office.

As for what he’d like to see from candidates this time around, Holland wants to see more initiative.

“I think whoever is going to end up being the mayor, they need to take a bit of a leadership role and tell council and the local government that they’re running our city. Our current mayor seems to not be running it.”

Holland finished third in last year’s mayoral by-election, picking up 5.55 per cent of the vote, and became known for his vociferous support of the Ajax mine proposal.
