Former Kamloops residents arrested in Merritt stabbing

MERRITT, B.C. — A 54 year old man from Merritt is recovering in hospital following an alleged stabbing last night.

Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Lorne Wood says police received word of the incident at around 6:00 p.m.

“A Merritt RCMP member was flagged down by a local resident regarding a disturbance at Lions Park near Voght Street,” he says. “The investigation determined that a 54 year old resident of Merritt had gotten into an altercation with two individuals which resulted in the victim being stabbed in the back.”

Wood says the victim suffered a collapsed lung and had to be transported to hospital in Kamloops where it is expected that he will recover.

He says the two suspects, a 42 year old man and a 27 year old woman, recently moved to Merritt from Kamloops. Wood says the victim also recently moved to Merritt from Kamloops though it’s unknown if the trio were previously known to each another.
