SALMON ARM, B.C. — A 30 year old man is in police custody following a home invasion in Tappen.

Salmon Arm RCMP Sgt. Scott Lachapelle says the incident occurred Tuesday.

“The report came in that a male broke into the home with a weapon and stole the home owner’s vehicle, a white 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe,” he says. “Upon arrival, police located a stolen Chevrolet Silverado which was left there by the suspect.”

Lachapelle says later that night, a report came in that the stolen Hyundai was parked in the 3600 area of Highway 1. Shortly after, he says police arrived on scene to find two weapons inside the car, one of which was allegedly used in the home invasion.

“Given the nature of the call and the belief that the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous, was still in the immediate area, a police dog and the RCMP Emergency Response Team were called out to assist,” he says.

“After a search of the area, the male suspect was located in the woods a short distance from the stolen vehicle.”

Lachapelle says the suspect was taken into custody without further incident and is due to appear in court today for “several recommended charges of Criminal Code offences.”

He adds though there were people home during the home invasion, nobody was injured.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
