KAMLOOPS —   The B-C Wildfire Service says that if the weather co-operates, it will conduct a planned ignition on the Snowy Mountain wildfire three kilometres west of Keremeos.

It says the planned hand ignition could begin as early as this morning and will be monitored by crews at all times.

The goal of the controlled ignition is to burn off forest fuels between established control lines and the fire perimetre, and to improve the overall safety and efficiency of firefighting efforts.

The wildfire service says residents and motorists can expect to see an increase in fire activity and smoke and there will be fixed wing air tankers and helicopters available to support ground crews as required.
