KAMLOOPS — It’s a move that’s expected to meet the increased demand for services and programs for the hungry and homeless in Kamloops.

New Life Community has merged with The Mustard Seed, effective Sept. 1, 2018. Moving forward, the organization will now be known as The Mustard Seed New Life Community.

“Knowing that our community’s donations will stay right here in Kamloops to help was an important factor in our decision to merge,” says Carol Paulsen, chair of the New Life Community Board. “Our current board will remain as an advisory board to The Mustard Seed helping to provide guidance and feedback into the exciting future.”

Kelly Thomson, interim executive director and New Life Community Board member, says the merger occurred after he made a call to The Mustard Seed for help in its search for a replacement for their outgoing executive director Stan Dueck.

“That’s when we learned The Mustard Seed was looking to expand into B.C. This phone call was the beginning of getting things in motion, yet it wasn’t our intention at all.”

New Life Community is a faith-based organization that has been serving those in need in Kamloops since 1980. The Mustard Seed, also a non-profit, has been serving those in need in three communities in B.C. and also in Alberta.
