BLUE RIVER, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service is busy responding to a lightning-caused 62-hectare blaze 20 kilometres north of Blue River on the west side of the Yellowhead Highway.

“We had crews out there yesterday but they were challenged due to the high temperatures and low relative humidity,” says Fire Information Officer Amanda Reynolds with the Prince George Fire Centre. “The fire did make a run upslope, so away from the highway and due to visibility issues air tankers were able to action it.”

She says nine firefighters are on site with helicopter support again today.

“But the fire isn’t moving downslope at this time; it’s moving upslope. Crews are on it, helicopters are bucketing it and just due to the high temperatures and low relative humidity it is visible but there isn’t any concern for any communities and it isn’t threatening the highway at this time.”
