KAMLOOPS — NOTE: Organizers say the day is a go, in spite of the smoke, but some individual events may be cancelled on short notice.

A fun annual event is taking place on Sunday on The Shore, as the Sixth Annual Overlanders Day will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McDonald Park.

The family-friendly event features a number of fun activities and entertainment, not to mention a wide variety of delicious food options. North Shore Business Improvement Association Marketing and PR Director Patti Phillips says Overlanders Day is a great opportunity for local Shore businesses to connect with residents of the Shore and show what they have to offer.

“It’s just a huge day,” Phillips told CFJC Today. “We start off with a pancake breakfast at 9:00 a.m., from the Lions Club by donation. Then we have the opening ceremonies. We have a lot of multicultural entertainment that’s going to be on as well. We have an animal corner this year, which we’re excited about. We have a pie-eating contest, for adults and children which will be really fun… there’s just so much going on.”

Phillips says the plan this year is to feature some old fashioned fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, which is meant as a nod to the some of long-time residents of the area.

“We’d love to see everyone from Kamloops come out and see what The Shore has to offer,” Phillips said. “There are so many people on the North Shore that have been here for generations, and they’re very proud of it, so the Overlanders Day kind of brings that out.”
