KAMLOOPS — An athlete from the Kamloops Track and Field Club will be coming home from the Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Brandon, Manitoba with a gold medal.

16-year-old Bazil Spencer, who’s from Quesnel, won the U-18 men’s national high jump competition after a personal best in the event. Spencer, who is coached here by Dylan Armstrong, managed a jump of 2.01 metres on his first attempt at that height, and that was enough to put himself at the top of the podium.

Armstrong has more Kamloops athletes competitive in their respective events over the weekend. 17-year-old javeline phenom Jacob Taylor, who also trains with Armstrong, will compete for gold on Saturday.
