Single-vehicle crash causes power outage in Rayleigh

KAMLOOPS — Update: According to BC Hydro, power has been restored and police say access in and out of Rayleigh will be restored by 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. 

The downed power lines have halted traffic since about 11:40 a.m. this morning.

Earlier: Over 1,600 BC Hydro customers are without power this hour in Rayleigh.

The Kamloops RCMP confirms it’s due to a single-vehicle crash that occurred at around 11:40 a.m. this morning.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the vehicle drove into a power pole near Rayleigh on Highway 5.

“The impact caused power lines to break and drop to the ground,” she says. “Currently, one southbound lane on Highway 5 near Rayleigh is closed while Hydro workers complete repairs.”

No word yet on when power will be restored.

She says the driver suffered minor injuries from the vehicle impact.
