New Zealand tourist dies following bridge jump in Sicamous

SICAMOUS — Tragedy in Sicamous as a 23 year old tourist from New Zealand died after jumping from a bridge.

The Sicamous RCMP were called out at 2 a.m. Wednesday to assist the BC Ambulance Service at the Trans-Canada Highway Bruhn Bridge where a woman was reportedly in medical distress after jumping from the bridge, which spans the Sicamous Channel.

“The woman was one of four people to jump from the bridge, which is approximately 20 metres above the water below,” says Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. “When the woman did not immediately re-surface after her jump, other people present assisted in getting her to shore.”

She says the woman was pronounced dead at hospital.
