KAMLOOPS —  More evacuation alerts and orders went into effect between Sunday night and yesterday afternoon in northwestern B.C. after a lightning storm ignited hundreds of new fires across the province last week.

Board Chair Bill Miller of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako says the intense storm sparked up blazes near Purvis, Nadina, and Island lakes, the prompting evacuation orders.

The BC Wildfire Service says they believe most of the lightning in the province has passed for now but are still dealing with the after effects, which have stretched their resources thin.

Kyla Fraser with the B-C wildfire service says the out-of-province crews requested last week arrived in B-C yesterday night and will be directed to the highest priroity fires.
