MERRITT — It looks like the BC Wildfire Service has a handle on the wildfire that broke out just west of Merritt Thursday.

Marla Catherall with the Kamloops Fire Centre says the fire – which is believed to have been caused after a tree fell on a powerline along Highway 8, has grown to seven hectares in size but is now classified as being held.

She says there are eight wildfire personnel on site today.

The blaze disrupted traffic for a time on Highway 8.
