Coquihalla Highway body discovery not deemed suspicious

MERRITT — The death of a woman whose body was recovered beside the Coquihalla Highway last month has been deemed non-suspicious by police.

Police say she was a 27 year old First Nations woman from the Northwest Territories who had connections to the South Okanagan.

Her body was found on July 22 by a man who was caught in a traffic backup near Mine Creek Road.

The man got out of his vehicle to stretch his legs and found the woman’s body by the side of the highway.

“The woman’s death is not deemed suspicious and no criminality is suspected,” says Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Lorne Wood. “The Merritt RCMP would like to thank the members of the public who called in to assist with sightings of the woman in the days before her passing and assisting in the recovery of some of her personal belongings.”
