Mediation resumes in casino strike

VERNON — Three days of mediated talks are scheduled to resume today between Gateway Casinos and the union representing 645 striking workers in the Okanagan and Kamloops.

BCGEU Vice President Doug Kinna says the members are standing strong with their demands.

“Well. we’re looking for an industry standard contract. We’ve always said that. We’re not over reaching. We think that a casino worker in Vernon should make the same as a casino worker anywhere else in British Columbia. The members are strong on the picket line. They don’t want to settle for anything less than industry standard.”

The company has said the union’s demand amounts to a 60 per cent wage increase.
