B.C. Wildfire service attacking several small interior fires

KAMLOOPS —     The B-C Wildfire Service is taking aggressive action against several new — but small — wildfires around southern B-C.

Twenty-eight crew members, two helicopters, one piece of heavy equipment and airtankers were working on the roughly seven hectare Dee Lake Road blaze near Vernon last evening and further updates about the smoky fire are expected later this morning.

Wildfire crews also responded yesterday to a spot fire near Allison Lake north of Princeton and assisted local fire crews with another small fire north of Osoyoos Lake.

The wildfire danger across most of the province is listed at moderate to high, with growing pockets of extremely dry bush and timber dotted across all six fire centres — including a large area covering most of the southern and southeastern tip of Vancouver Island.
