Apartment starts continue to drive housing construction in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Apartment starts drove housing construction in Kamloops in June.

New numbers released today by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) reveal that 59 per cent of housing starts were driven by apartment construction.

Here is the breakdown of housing starts by dwelling type last month:

• Single: 14
• Semi-detached: 2
• Row: 0
• Apartment: 23
• All: 39

Year-over-year housing starts in June were down from June 2017, when there were 57 housing starts.

However, year-to-date housing starts are way up from last year with 367 starts through June 2018, compared to 186 through June 2017.

Of those 367 starts, 58 per cent, or 212, were apartment starts.
