KAMLOOPS — On Sunday, the Kamloops Blaze U-18 Girls had a chance at a Provincial B Cup title on home turf, as they took on a team from Nelson in the Championship game.

After some early pressure from the local squad, it was Nelson who opened up the scoring. A well-played through-ball from Cara Brawdy sent Chantal Gammie in alone. Gammie beat the Kamloops keeper with a nice move for a 1-0 lead.

The Blaze had an opportunity to even the score later in the first half. Georgia Susheski weaved through defenders for a shot on goal, but Nelson Keeper Hanna Quinn made the spectacular save to keep Kamloops off the board.

In the second half, Nelson struck again, as another beautiful through ball from a Nelson defender sent Gammie in alone again with the same result, and a 2-0 Nelson lead.

Susheski had another chance to get the Blaze on the board, as she beat the Nelson defender up the far wing, then hammered a shot on net that beat the Keeper but couldn’t get past the crossbar.

Almost immediately after the Kamloops chance, Nelson would put the final dagger into the Blaze. Gammie beat her defender, then put the shot off the Kamloops keeper, off the post and in to complete the hat trick.

Nelson is the U18 Provincial Girls B Cup Championship with a 3-0 victory over Kamloops.
