OTTAWA —  The latest data from Statistics Canada shows the number of people looking for work in B-C jumped last month.

The jobless rate in B-C climbed to 5.2 per cent in June from 4.8 per cent the month earlier, and rates also increased in Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Kelowna, with unemployment in the Okanagan city spiking six-tenths of a point to 5.6 per cent.

Still, unemployment in this province remains below the six per cent rate set nationally in June — a boost of two basis points from May.

The B.C. rate is still the lowest in Canada, two tenths of a point lower than the 5.4 percent rate in Quebec.
