KAMLOOPS  — All is a go for a big sports weekend at McArthur Island.
Rain on the Canada Day weekend forced the closure of all fields — soccer and baseball earlier
this week.
But things have dried out the last two days.

“The city just inspected all the fields at McArthur Island this morning.” says city Parks and Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putman, “Up until today we know that Norbrock Stadium was closed, as well as all the soccer fields — but I’m really happy to report that as of right now everything on McArthur Island will be open going forward —- which means we are going to have a fantastic KIBT baseball event and we’re going to have a fantastic provincial soccer event.”

Kamloops Youth Soccer is hosting the girls Provincial B Cup tournament involving 48 teams which have qualified through the eight regions of B.C. Soccer for provincial championships.
KYSA has team in five of the six divisions.

The Kamloops International Baseball Tournament has had longevity.
First organized by Gary Cameron, Art Worth and Lynn Bylund in 1973, this will be the 45th year for the tournament, which begins tomorrow at Norbrock.

“I think it really means there has been some good baseball.” says KIBT President Wayne Harper, “The baseball gods are with us and the weather has usually been good, and we have a lot of great fans.   We’ve got some fans coming in from Hazelton who come every year.   They’ve been coming for probably 30 years.   It just shows you the calibre of ball is always good.” says Harper, “It’s always talked about — KIBT, KIBT, KIBT.”
