Canada Day crowd wet, but enthusiastic

KAMLOOPS — Weatherwise, it wasn’t the greatest Canada Day ever, but thousands braved their way through the odd period of heavy rain to participate in the day’s events at Riverside Park. The weather held off for the majority of the Multicultural Celebrations, but the skies opened off and on the rest of the day. Around 7:00 PM, a thunderstorm and rain threatened the fireworks, but the show eventually went on and the crowd went home happy, albeit a little on the wet side.

High yesterday was just 19 degrees, and we had 14.5 millimeters of rain at the airport, more at the higher levels, and more showers are forecast for today. Normal highs for the start of July are in the high 20’s.

There was a report of a possible road washout at Criss Creek because of a flash flood with the heavy rain showers, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.  1300 Hydro customers in the Ashcroft area were without power for about 3 hours this morning. The storm caused trees to come down across the lines just after midnight. Power was restored by 3:30 AM
