KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Rural RCMP detachment has concluded a fire that destroyed the Cherry Creek gas station early Friday morning was not suspicious.

The blaze burned the station to the ground and caused a brief evacuation of a nearby mobile home park.

As the station is outside Kamloops Fire Rescue's limits, firefighters from the nearby New Afton mine attended, but were unable to save the building.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the initial alarm came in from the building's electrical room, though an electrical malfunction has not officially been deemed the cause.
