PRINCE GEORGE – A strong summer storm shook Prince George Wednesday evening, delivering damaging winds, heavy downpours and brilliant lightning strikes.

The storm’s dark clouds moved over the city around 9:00pm.  The wind was responsible for knocking down at least one tree in a residential area in the bowl.  The tree fell into a street light forcing RCMP to close the road to traffic.

Near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Tabor Boulevard, the heavy rain swamped storm drains.  The flooded street trapped at least one vehicle in water that appeared to be at least 40 centimetres deep.

BC Hydro reported a number of outages throughout the city.  Some were short lived while other outages lasted well beyond 90 minutes.  The outages came shortly after the spectacular lightning strikes swept over Prince George.
