PINANTAN LAKE, B.C. — The chief of the Pinantan Lake volunteer fire brigade is reminding back country users that, just because there is no campfire ban in place yet, doesn’t mean they can be careless.

On Sunday, fire brigade members came across an abandoned campfire near Pemberton Lake off Hyas Lake Road northeast of Kamloops.

Al Scramstad says the fire was still smouldering and very hot when the brigade members found it.

Scramstad says the fire could have endangered the nearby communities of Pinantan Lake, Paul Lake and Pritchard if it would have taken off.
