Kamloops’ Stewart tops world rankings with performance in Phoenix

KAMLOOPS — Greg Stewart of Kamloops has moved to number one in the world rankings in the Para shot put. 

Stewart threw a personal best today of 15.8 metres at the Para Desert Challenge in Phoenix. 

He beat the world record holder from the U.S. and is now only 18 cm off the world record. 

The throw today was enough to move him to number one in the world.

Stewart, who is coached by Olympic bronze medalist Dylan Armstrong, is in training for the 2020 Paralympics. 

Another athlete coached by Armstrong won a javelin throw at a meet in Kelowna last night. 

Jacob Taylor also set a personal best with a throw of 61.59 metres.
