Investigators more confident two Kamloops shootings Monday were connected

KAMLOOPS — Serious Crime Unit investigators with Kamloops RCMP are more certain than ever that two shooting incidents on Monday were connected.

The first occurred at a home on Salish Road on the Tk’emlups Reserve at 11:00 a.m.

A window was broken but no one was injured.

A second shooting at about 1:25 p.m. near a busy Sahali intersection left a 56 year old man injured.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says investigators have been looking into both incidents.

“Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit does believe that the incident that happened when a firearm was used on the reserve and the suspects left in a black pickup truck is related to the same suspects in the black pickup truck with the shooting that happened near McGill Road and Summit Drive,” said Shelkie.

Police say the targets of the second shooting are known to police and the incident is believed to be drug-related.

RCMP aren’t commenting on whether the victim, who required surgery to treat his wounds, is co-operating.

Shelkie says police would appreciate some help from the public.

“We believe that the stolen black pickup truck with Alberta license plates was in Kamloops for the last few weeks. We’re just asking anybody who saw it in any specific area of town or at a residence to contact Kamloops RCMP and let us know what its activities were,” said Shelkie.
